Gloria Hale (1976) Passes Away

Gloria Marie Harris Hale November 30, 1948 | April 18, 2018 Gloria Marie Harris Hale Gloria Marie Harris, the daughter of Arthur D. Rogers and Margie Harris, is a native of Stuttgart, Arkansas.  At the age of eight she and her family moved to Louisville, KY.  At the age of nine she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Friendship Baptist Church. She is a graduate of Louisville Male High School, Louisville, KY, where she was a member of the 50 Year Club.  She received a B.A. degree from Belmont University and a M.Ed. degree from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. Gloria Hale was an active member and works in the Christian Education, Missions, and Youth Ministries of Zion; Past President of the Golden Hand Mission Union; served as Director of Vacation Bible School for many years.  She has also served as Troop Organizer and Troop Leader in Zion's Girl Scout Program.  Sister Hale accompanied Rev. Hale in the Mission Trips to Antigua serving as the VBS Director in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2008. She formerly served as Women's Auxiliary President of the Wood River Baptist District Association (2003-2007); former President of Church Women United in Springfield (1994-1999 and 2006-2008).  She previously served on the faculty and staff of American Baptist College in Nashville, TN (1980-1982); Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield (1984-1991); MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, 1991-1997; the Hope School (1999-2000); the Academic Development Institute in Lincoln, IL (2001-2002).  She has been a Teacher in the NAACP Alternative Education Program (2002-2016).  Sister Hale has also served as Teacher of the Ministers' Wives Seminar in the Congress of the Wood River Baptist District Association (2014-2016). Sister Hale has received several awards from educational, religious and community organizations: The Woman of the Year Award in Religion from the Springfield YWCA, 1987; the Leadership & Service Award from Campus Chapter of the NAACP at MacMurray College, Jacksonville, IL, 1996; The Valiant Woman Award from Church Women United, 2000; and the Religious/Civic Award from the Springfield Branch of the NAACP in February 2010.  Sister Hale was also selected as the recipient of the 2011 First Lady of the Year Award presented by the Kappa Sigma Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; and she also received several recognitions from Central Illinois Girl Scout Council. Gloria Hale was preceded in Death by her parents and her brothers: Nathaniel Johnson and Isaac Johnson, Sr.; and son, Samuel W. Hale, III. She leaves to Celebrate her Home Going her beloved husband, Rev. Samuel W. Hale, Jr.; her children: Lori (Charles) Singleton EdD, Jonathan J. Hale, Sr., and Benjamin P. Hale;  grandchildren: Janasia R. Taylor, Jalisia R. Taylor Singleton, Chazzyn R. Singleton, Melina B. Hale, Kai J. Hale, Jonathan J. Hale, Jr. and Samuel W. Hale, IV; brothers: Arthur  Rogers, Joseph (Jerlean) Johnson  and Raymond (Phyllis) Rodgers; sisters: Bettie (Robert) Hatchett and Charlene (Thomas) Campbell; Sister-in-law, Faye Johnson, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
