Jack Shannon, Class of 1969, Passes Away

Jackie "Jack" Wayne Shannon, 71, passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2017 at his home in Matthews, North Carolina.

Jack was born in Lebanon, Tennessee, on March 10, 1946. He attended Hillwood High School in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from Belmont University in May of 1969. Jack married Rosanne Jones in June of 1969 and then pursued a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. After a brief career as a worship leader at First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he returned to Belmont where he took a job in the Admissions Office. After two years at Belmont, Jack moved to the Admissions Office at Carson Newman University where he served in various administrative capacities for 32 years. In 2007, Jack and his wife of 48 years, retired to Charlotte, North Carolina to be near his grandchildren. Jack was a Sunday school teacher, Choir Member and Deacon at Manley Baptist Church in Morristown, Tennessee while at Carson Newman, and more recently, served as an active member of the "Helping Hands" ministry of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, North Carolina.

Jack is preceded in death by his father, Reverend Jesse Houston Shannon; his mother, Mildred Douthit Shannon; and his brother, James Dwight Shannon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosanne Jones Shannon of Matthews, North Carolina; son, Jason Dwight Shannon and wife, Elana; grandchildren, Seth (16), Sadie (13), and Samuel (11), all of Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Jonathan Wayne Shannon and wife, Cody of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Peggy O'Kain, Barbara Bateman, Carolyn Shannon and Judi Shannon.

Jack is finally and fully claiming "It Is Well With My Soul".

A visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastors, Alex Kennedy and Dr. Don Garner.
