Joyce Lorean Moody Shive of Kingwood, Texas passed away on February 26, 2014, at the age of 67. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 4, 1946, to Lorean and Willy D Moody. She is survived by her husband, Alan Richard Shive, of Kingwood a son, Scott Alan Shive, his wife Laura, and their daughter Amelia, of Austin a son, Andrew Moody Shive and his wife Akane, of Tokyo, Japan a brother, Glenn Barnett and his wife Shirley, of Forest Park, Georgia a sister, Anne Moose, of Denver, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

From about the age of three or four, Joyce was playing the piano. Piano and Jesus were her two passions she was baptized at her home church in Atlanta at the age of seven. She attended junior college in Cleveland, Georgia, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1968. She then studied at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and received a Master's Degree in Church Music in 1971.

In March of 1971 she met Alan on a blind date and they married in May 1972. Later - many years later - she told him that when they first met, she knew she was going to marry him. After marrying, Joyce and Alan lived in Arlington, Virginia; Lafayette, Louisiana; Houston, Texas;  Aberdeen, Scotland; Perth, Australia; and finally in Kingwood since 1983.

When Joyce first met Alan, she told him that she wanted to be a foreign missionary. She got her wish, although probably not as she had anticipated, by playing the piano and organ, singing, and directing music in churches everywhere she lived. In Kingwood, Joyce and Alan joined the predecessor to Northpark Christian Church in spring of 1983. Joyce conducted a Vacation Bible School in her and Alan's house that summer. For many years, Joyce accompanied singers and Communion at Northpark on the piano. She also taught private piano lessons to children and adults in Kingwood for many years.
