Kristin (Scott) Benson ('98) is preparing to leave her home in Boiling Springs for Arkansas. Another stop in Mississippi is planned for the day after that. The newest member of contemporary bluegrass band The Grascals, Benson ('98) is touring the country to promote the band's latest album, "The Famous Lefty Flynn's.” She plays guitar and mandolin and sings harmony vocals with The Grascals. She first played the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 19, and for the past three years, she's been named the International Bluegrass Music Association's Banjo Player of the Year. As a band, The Grascals have garnered many awards. They have been nominated for two Grammys, been named IBMA Entertainers of the Year two years in a row, and played the Grand Ole Opry nearly 100 times. The band has worked with Hank Williams Jr., Tanya Tucker, Charlie Daniels and Dolly Parton, among others. Benson ('98) says the band just finished recording an Andy Griffith tribute compilation. They also are working on a Grascals and Friends album with Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Tom T. Hall, The Oak Ridge Boys and others.
