Phyllis Terry, 70, of Nashville Tennessee, died at her home on May 7th, 2020, following a long battle with cancer; she was surrounded by family and friends.  She left us at peace knowing her ultimate resting place.  Born July 8th, 1949 in Nashville TN, she is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Mary Lois Dunkerley; her husband, Allan Terry Sr.; and her son Allan Terry, Jr.

Upon graduation from John Overton High School in 1967, she attended Belmont University.  She received an elementary education degree in 1975, and a nursing degree in 1981.  Phyllis was a Registered Nurse and worked at Baptist Hospital in Nashville for 13 years.  She retired in November 1994 due to non-threatening health issues and to care for her aging parents.  Phyllis attended Crievewood United Methodist Church.

Phyllis was a caring mom who was so loved and cherished by all who knew her.  She had one of the kindest hearts God ever created. Phyllis was an avid history buff and her love of the past included the history of her family.  She was the family's to remember the date of every event in the lives of those she loved.

She enjoyed sewing for her family and friends on special occasions, as well as completing alterations and repairs.  But it was not just the thread...she gave all she had to make others whole and complete.  What was hers was yours.

Her other love was for animals...all creatures big and small.  She had a God-given gift for the care of stray and injured animals, nurturing even the not-so-domesticated ones back to health in order to return them to their natural habitat.  Her renowned skills, which include resuscitating a squirrel with a straw, landed her name on a local veterinarian's call-down list in the case of injured animals who needed even more care.

Survivors include her son, Sam Terry and his wife, Matison of Nashville; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Cooper Terry of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Thomas Terry and Leah Terry; her brother, Allen Dunkerley III of Nashville, her nieces Lori Dunkerley Dean, Becky Dunkerley, Mary Cox, and Ruth Braswell; her nephew, Bill Dunkerley; and her dear friend and encourager until the end, Yvonne Baxter.

A celebration of her life in her honor will be held when it is safe to do so.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to Walden's Puddle Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.  Information can be found online at

Woodbine Funeral Home, Inc.
