Gov. Bill Lee announced Wednesday Butch Eley will be taking on a new role in state government to serve as the next commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration.

Eley, who currently serves as Lee's chief operating officer, will immediately take over the position. The announcement comes two weeks after the governor tabbed Stuart McWhorter, the previous finance commissioner, to lead the COVID-19 Unified Command, which is heading up efforts to coordinate state departments responses to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, Lee said the Department of Finance and Administration would play a critical role in restarting the state's economy in the coming weeks.Earlier this week the governor indicated he plans to begin such a "reboot" in May."Butch brings significant expertise to the role as our state faces economic changes,” Lee said. “His knowledge of the private sector and service as our chief operating officer will ensure we keep Tennessee in a fiscally sound position by prudent management of state services.”

Prior to joining the Lee administration, Eley founded the Infrastructure Corporation of America and served as partner and president of the Ingram Group.
