Michael Scott Althuis of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 33 on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sidney DeBoer, George Althuis and Freida Althuis; and his uncle, Ron Van Der Bilt.

Michael is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Karen Althuis; siblings, Cindy Althuis and David (Megan) Althuis; aunt and uncles, Jane Van Der Bilt, Judy (Mark) Drenth, and Greg (Melinda) Althuis; cousins, Kristi Drenth, Dan (Amy) Drenth, Tim Van Der Bilt, Joy (Doug) Verkaik, Mark (Rachel) Althuis, and Amy (Kyle) Mutersbaugh; grandmother, Betty DeBoer; and many dear friends.

Michael had a creative spirit which led him to Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and later transferred to Belmont University in Nashville, TN to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Music Business. He filled his life with music, poetry, literature, and travel and he dedicated his time deepening his appreciation for these beautiful passions. Whether through writing music, playing guitar and piano, or making his way through the top 100 list of books every person should read in classic literature, Michael never stopped pursuing a greater love for the arts. He was a gifted conversationalist and valued having deep conversation long into the night. Michael could often be found cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and beating his friends at ping-pong and disk golf. Michael touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever live on in the heart of those who loved him.

Memorial contributions in Michael’s memory can be made to First Baptist Church O'Fallon Kairos Student Ministry Camp Scholarship Fund.
