David Wiley (Class of 1976) Passes Away

David Wiley (Class of 1976) from CookDestin FL, Died Monday October 24, 2016 after a brief illness. A native and former resident of Nashville and Springfield, he was born August 9, 1952, the son of the late Sam L. Cook, Jr. and Catherine Wiley Cook. He is survived by his wife, Susan Ballard Cook of Destin and brother Sam L. (Nicki) Cook III of Nashville. Preceded in death by his sister Mary Farris Cook Martin, nephew Alexander Martin and late wife Sandra Hewitt Cook, he is also survived by his brothers-in-law Phil (Margaret) Martin and Perry Ballard; sisters-in-law Patricia Chastain and Deborah Cole; nieces Katie Cook (Thomas) Parker, Megan Cook (Barry) Daniel; nephews Hutch, and Davis (Jodie) Martin, William Cole IV, and Matthew (Ericka) Cole, Brewer Ballard and Jackson Ballard. Wiley will be remembered as a gregarious Southern gentleman who was always entertaining. His sly smile, twinkling eyes and sharp sense of wit enlivened every gathering. He began his extensive career in business with Nashville City Bank & Trust in 1976 after graduation from Belmont University. He attended Stonier Graduate School of Banking and completed the ABA National Commercial Lending School. Active in the Nashville Junior Chamber of Commerce, he moved to Manufacturers' Hanover where he was the company's leading producer in the Southeast. Along with his brother Sam, he founded Travel Unlimited of Nashville and was the managing partner. He spent ten years with Union Planters National Bank of Nashville, rising to Executive Vice President before moving to Prudential Securities, subsequently Paine Webber and ultimately Waller Equity Management, where he served as CFO. In 2002, he started Securian Financial in Nashville before retiring. Wiley was a member of the Exchange Club and First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday November 10 at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church Nashville with The Rev. Todd B. Jones officiating. The family will receive friends in Courtney Hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
