Homecoming 2020

Dr. Robert E. Simmons Distinguished Faculty Lecture Convocation

Featuring Dr. Jeremy Fyke, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies

For the Love: Graced for the Work of Stewardship

“Why am I here?” is a question that has been pondered throughout history and is Googled on the regular today. In Ephesians 2:10 Paul writes that “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” In other words, we are purposed for our callings, and it is up to us to steward them well. In this interactive talk, Dr. Fyke will discuss his journey from a near-flunkie and college dropout to a professor and practitioner who thrives through a little bit of hard work and a whole lot of Jesus.

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences' Dr. Robert E. Simmons Distinguished Faculty Lecture was created in 1983 by Dr. Simmons who was a visionary academic leader and a strong supporter of the liberal arts at Belmont University. After his death is 1988, the lectureship was named in his honor.
