Gordon Kennedy

Gordon Kennedy is a multi Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer, guitarist and visionary at the forefront of Nashville's music community. Kennedy's name became nationally recognized when he won Song of the Year at the 1997 Grammys for Eric Clapton's No. 1 hit "Change the World,” which he co-wrote with Wayne Kirkpatrick and Tommy Sims. Kennedy won a 2007 Best Pop Instrumental Album Grammy for co-producing Peter Frampton's Fingerprints album. In addition to his work with Clapton and Frampton, Kennedy has had his songs cut by musical greats, including Bonnie Raitt, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Bruce Hornsby, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Alison Krauss, Nickel Creek, George Strait, Martina McBride, Joan Osborne, Wynonna, T-Pain, Mary J. Blige, Akon, P Diddy, and, most recently, bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs. He is a 1981 Belmont alum.


Chad Cates

A 1996 alum and Franklin TN native, Chad is an award winning songwriter. He has had seven #1 songs and five Dove Award Nominations. Chad has written songs for artists and groups such as Mandisa, Casting Crowns, Matt Wertz, Brandon Heath, Andy Davis, Jaci Velasquez, Steve Moakler, Rebecca St James, Selah, Salvador, Elenowen, and Moriah Peters, including the Dove award winning songs, Everything to Me(Avalon) and Lost(RED). He’s had songs in Private Practice(ABC), Ghost Whisperer(CBS), and One Tree Hill(CW) and Pretty Little Liars(ABC). He is married to Sarah. You can find him at


Ben Cooper

Ben Cooper is an Indiana native and a 2007 Belmont alum who has spent the past four years as a full-time songwriter here in Nashville. Collaborating with his mentor, Gordon Kennedy, he has had cuts on Ricky Skaggs’ Grammy-nominated album "Mosaic” as well as Skaggs’ 2012 release "Music to My Ears.” When he’s not writing music in his East Nashville studio, Ben is soaking up every moment he can with his wife Brittany and their six-month-old baby girl, Eleanor Joy.


Ginny Owens

A 1997 Belmont alum, is a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter, who has sold nearly one million albums. Her music has been featured on numerous television shows, as well as at the Lilith Fair, Sundance Film Festival, and even at the White House. She is a three-time Dove Award winner and multiple ASCAP Award winner. In 2005, Ginny launched The Fingerprint Initiative, a hands-on, non-profit organization designed to "bring hope to the world, one project and one touch at a time.” We are fortunate to have Ginny back at Belmont serving on our songwriting faculty in the Curb College.

Drew Ramsey

Belmont is fortunate to have Drew Ramsey joining the line up on February 1.  An award winning songwriter, musician and producer, Drew is now a full time Instructor of Songwriting at Belmont. With more than 20 years experience, he is a two-time Grammy nominated songwriter, and multi-Grammy winner with production partner Shannon Sanders, who together recorded songs by India.Arie, John Legend, Jonny Lang, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and Nicole C. Mullen.


Chris Rodriguez

A 1983 Belmont alum, Rodriguez was born on March 7, 1960, in Bronx New York, and moved to Nashville, becoming a veteran of the scene in the early 1990s. His debut album, Beggar's Paradise, was released by Sony in 1999, by which time he had collaborated on projects with country and CCM acts such as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Wynonna Judd, and Shania Twain. He continues to work as a session musician with other artists on the Nashville scene, such as Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins, and Lee Ann Womack. Chris is also the brainchild behind the Nashville based band "The Alternators" that features some of Nashville's best session players that interchange as their schedules allow.

Larry Stewart

Larry Stewart, an American country music icon and 1983 Belmont alum is best known for his role as lead singer of the country pop band Restless Heart. In 1993, Stewart also recorded four solo albums and charted eight singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts before reuniting with Restless Heart in 2002. Between 1985 and 1992, Restless Heart charted eighteen Top 40 singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, including six Number Ones.  To commemorate the band's 30th anniversary, Restless Heart will begin a "30 Years & Still Restless Tour.” With 27 shows in 25 cities already scheduled, the tour is expected to reach 80-90 dates by the end of 2013. The band has also announced plans to release new music in 2013.

 Peter Frampton

Grammy winner Peter Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. At sixteen, he was lead singer and guitarist for British band The Herd. At eighteen, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His session work includes such legendary artists as George Harrison, Harry Nilsson, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ringo Starr, John Entwistle and many others. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive!, is one of the top-selling live records of all time.

In 2007 Frampton won his first Grammy® for Fingerprints for best Pop Instrumental Album. And, in 2010 he released his autobiographical record Thank You Mr Churchill. From 2011 to 2012, Frampton toured the world in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive!. Two shows were filmed for a dvd/blu-ray release in Milwaukee, WI and New York, NY. FCA! 35 : An Evening With Peter Frampton was released on Nov 13, 2012 by Eagle Rock Entertainment. A 3cd set was also released that features Peter's favorite tracks culled from the world tour. Rachael Lampa

An American Christian singer-songwriter, record producer, and occasional actress, Rachael rose to fame in 2000 with her debut album Live For You, winning a Dove Award. She was also named the No. 1 Young New Female Artist by CCM Magazine and made appearances on The Tonight Show and The View. Rachael has released three studio albums, Live For You, Kaleidoscope, and Rachael Lampa. She has also released one remix album, Blur, one greatest hits album, Blessed: The Best of Rachael Lampa, and two extended plays, Three Songs For Christmas, and Human. Her fourth full-length studio album, All We Need, was released on September 27, 2011.

Ricky Skaggs

From Skaggs’ beginnings in bluegrass, he has gone on to put his own stamp on the mainstream country format, resulting in twelve #1 hits, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and eight Country Music Association Awards, including CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1985. Skaggs started his own record label, Skaggs Family Records, in 1997 and has since released 12 consecutive Grammy-nominated albums. His latest album, Music To My Ears, was released to rave reviews and is the perfect blend of bluegrass music with some country-infused moments.With a career spanning over 50 years in music, he has been selected as a 2012 recipient of the ACM Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award and was inducted into the 2012 Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame, all while continuing to record and tour with his band Kentucky Thunder as one of music’s most sought after live performers.

Matt Wertz

Matt Wertz is a singer/songwriter. Originally from LaVale, MD he now lives in Nashville, Tennessee.[1] His interest in visual art led him to study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he graduated with a degree in industrial design. While there, his musical talents and ambitions grew.
After graduation, Wertz gained a considerable fan base by performing at Young Life camps, after releasing his first album, Somedays, produced by Steve Wilson. His next two studio albums were produced with Ed Cash and an EP by Wertz and his best friend Dave Barnes. He has toured with such acts as Hanson, Jon McLaughlin, Jason Mraz, Jamie Cullum, Gavin Degraw, Matt Nathanson and Jars of Clay, and has headlined several tours nationally in the early-to-mid-2000s (decade).
