PEZ Candy lost its most loyal fan this week. Annette McAllister Lewis donned a pair of funny socks and Converse tennis shoes and danced right out of our arms and into God's on June 10, 2017, ending a much too long battle with multiple myeloma. She was born December 14, 1978 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. She left the heat and humidity and moved to Nashville TN for more heat and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Belmont University. She made her way to the cooler mountains of Asheville NC where she lovingly served her family, Biltmore Church, The Lions Club, Phi Mu Sorority, earned a master's degree in human resources from WCU and dominated the Mahjong table.Though she left her beloved Louisiana years ago, she didn't leave the party always smiling, always cooking, always welcoming and always making reasons to throw a celebration anytime, for any reason, without warning. And let there be no mistake that any televised New Orleans Saints game became a mandatory holiday. She accomplished more love in her 38 years than most people do in a full lifetime. She fell in love with only one man. Then, together, they fell in love with a precious baby boy. She had hundreds and hundreds of friends. She picked up stray dogs, organized meal trains and baby showers. She dressed in costumes for birthday parties and Halloween, taught Sunday school, took tiny bottles of hotel shampoo to women's shelters, loved Icees and snow cones, and fought this illness until the end with bravery, humor and grace. Her biggest passion was selflessly demonstrating the love of Christ to others. Be it serving coffee at church, participating in Love Loud service projects, delivering food to those in need, and most recently showing love to women with unexpected and unplanned pregnancies. We will miss her huge sweet smile, her roasted broccoli, her quick wit and her unconditional love, but we are thrilled that she is skipping down the streets of gold because this little saint went marching in!She is preceded in death by her beloved dog, Jack Richard, and survived by her wonderful husband, Robert Lewis, her beautiful son, Doughton and her feisty dogs, Gumbo & Nola; her very proud parents, Aaron & Ann Motte McAllister; her big sister, Adrienne Kort, and her sweet (mischievous) nieces, Chloe & Claire all of Asheville NC.We will celebrate her love of life and colorful spirit on Friday, June 16, right after nap time, at 2 pm at the Arden campus of Biltmore Church, 35 Clayton Road, Arden, NC. No formal attire please, just be you... but maybe you in Converse tennis shoes. There will be plenty of flowers so please consider making a gift to either 1) a scholarship fund for Doughton Lewis please make checks payable to Robert Lewis and send to PO Box 6245, Asheville, NC 28816 or 2) Mountain Area Pregnancy Services where donations can be made online https://www.mtnpregnancy.com/donate .
