Franklin Cordell Cowherd of Old Hickory, TN, age 75, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at home in the loving arms of his family. He was preceded in death by parents, Ellis and Willie Mae, and brother, Freeman. Survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Kathy; children, Lori Merritt, Kevin Cowherd, and Daniel Baron; grandchildren, Hannah Merritt, Jake Merritt, and Katelyn Knowles; siblings, Ronnie (Barbara) Cowherd, Norma Dean (Jim) McMurtry, and Jack (Carol) Cowherd. A graduate of Dupont High School and Belmont College, he retired from teaching with Metro Public Schools and went on to have a 20-year career with the TN Higher Education Commission. An avid golfer, Frank also loved fishing, Vanderbilt basketball, Nashville history, and 'philosophizing' with his best friend of 50 years, Bart Tucker.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice, your local rescue/animal shelter, or spay/neuter program.Visitation was held at Hermitage Funeral Home on Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 4-8pm; a Celebration of Life was held on Sunday, November 13, 2016, from 1-4pm at Riverside Golf Center in the outdoor pavilion.
