School Of Pharmacy Christmas Tree Fund Raising Project

“With each tone of the Belmont Bell Tower…Another Student Spreads their Wings” is the theme of the Belmont University School of Pharmacy’s sponsored Christmas tree at Gaylord Opryland’s Hall of Trees.  On November 19th f five pharmacy students gathered at Gaylord’s Opryland Resort to decorate a tree as a fund raiser for the Academy of Student Pharmacists at Belmont University.

This is the second year that Gaylord’s has magnanimously donated space and artificial, lighted Christmas trees to individuals and groups supporting charitable causes. Spreading Christmas Cheer for Charity is only one of Gaylord’s ways of supporting the community.  The air was electric with excitement as the Belmont Pharmacy students started opening boxes of ornaments and professionally trimming a 7’ tree.  Louise Mandrell, Jeffrey Steele and several of the Rockettes were only a few of those who stopped by to congratulate the students on their beautifully decorated tree.

The Belmont tree is highlighted by, a lovely golden moveable angel, and gifts under the tree include celebrity signed CD’s (Trisha Yearwood, a Belmont Alumnae, Josh Turner, a Belmont Alumnus, and Rockabilly Christmas! (Cast at Opryland Hotel) Mark Volman founding member of “The Turtles”, member of “The Mothers of Invention” and Belmont Professor of Music Business) Belmont University mementoes, a poster and official Press tote bag from the 2008 Town Hall Presidential debate and a priceless ornament containing soil from the recent groundbreaking of the new School of Health Sciences are all part of the package being auctioned at www. halloftrees.com. If you and your family are in the area you can stop by Gaylord’s and see the 32 beautifully adorned trees and if you’re feeling the Christmas spirit you can place a bid in person or make a contribution to the Belmont Pharmacy Students.

About the Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) at Belmont

The APhA-ASP is the official national professional association of student pharmacists.  This organization is dedicated to instilling professionalism, service and education to women and men enrolled in Doctor of Pharmacy degree programs through the United States.   The Belmont Chapter was organized in October of 2008 and is the inaugural organization for the new School of Pharmacy at Belmont University.

About Our Fundraising Drive

The Belmont Chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists is raising funds to help underwrite leadership development programs and to defray costs for students to attend leadership development conferences and to compete in the National Patient Counseling Competition, a skills completion focusing on how to talk with patients about safely using prescribed medications.

The school wide competition will be held in Nashville in January, 2009 and the winner and faculty advisor will represent Belmont in the national competition which will be held at the national conference of student pharmacists in San Antonio TX in March 2009.

is raising funds to help underwrite leadership development programs and to defray costs for students to compete in the National Patient Counseling Competition; a skills completion focusing on how to talk with patients about safely using prescribed medications.   Faculty Advisor, Dr. Giorgianni, notes, “We are a brand new school and will be competing against students with up to 3 years more experience at schools of pharmacy that have been around for decades.  But the Belmont Student Pharmacists are very energized participating in this exciting event and the opportunity build our Nashville school’s national reputation.  I am so proud of our competitors and hope we are able to raise sufficient funds to run this program successfully.”

We hope all Belmont Alumni and Friends will pitch in and help our new Student Pharmacists with their leadership development and completion travel stipend.   If you would like to help but do not want to bid on our Hall of Trees entry direct contributions may be made to “BUSOP-ASP” and mailed to the faculty advisor: Dr. Salvatore J. Giorgianni, Director Experiential Education and Development at Belmont University School of Pharmacy 1900 Belmont Blvd. Nashville, TN   37212 or call 615-460-6744.
